The BDA–Nexus model aligns with Morocco’s Génération Green 2020–2030, the National Biodiversity Strategy, the Paris Agreement, and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). By bridging ecosystem restoration, poverty reduction, and green job creation, the Foundation positions Morocco as a living laboratory for climate solutions and a leader in South–South cooperation.
The Integrated BDA–Nexus

The BDA Horizons model combines the BDA eco-entrepreneurship approach with the Nexus Circular Climate Model inspired by the Roots Across the Wall initiative. Together, they create an interconnected system linking biodiversity, climate, water, sustainable agriculture, local economy, and cultural heritage.
This integrated framework transforms national and global sustainability goals into actionable territorial solutions. It restores ecosystems, strengthens community resilience, builds local economies, and generates certified carbon credits that directly benefit rural households.
The Pillars of Our Model
Five interconnected pillars linking ecology, economy, and culture into a unified development framework.
Eco-Entrepreneurship
We train and certify youth, women, and cooperatives as eco-entrepreneurs who transform local biodiversity into high-value agricultural, forestry, and artisanal products. They receive technical, managerial, and sustainability training to create GACP-compliant, nature-positive enterprises that generate local jobs and long-term economic value.
Inclusive Economic Model
Our model builds a territorial circular economy anchored in non-profit processing and semi-industrialization centers. These centers ensure quality control, traceability, and certification — while redistributing added value to producers. The result is a fair, resilient, and community-driven economic ecosystem.
Carbon Finance & Ecosystem Services
Through the Nexus climate model, we enhance carbon sequestration via agroforestry, soil regeneration, and large-scale landscape restoration. Avoided emissions and certified credits (Plan Vivo, Gold Standard) are tracked through digital MRV systems for transparency and fair benefit-sharing.
Revenues from carbon finance are reinvested locally to strengthen water security, support adaptation, and launch new community projects.
Biodiversity–Water–Climate Nexus
The model integrates sustainable biodiversity management with water efficiency and climate resilience. Solar-powered irrigation sustains reforestation and agroecology, while the valorization of medicinal and aromatic plants enhances cultivated biodiversity and protects endemic species.
Each planted tree contributes to a virtuous cycle: healthier soils, greater carbon sequestration, improved water infiltration, and reliable income streams for rural communities.
Innovation & Traditional Knowledge
We combine ancestral knowledge with modern tools to drive inclusive innovation. Traditional water management, plant knowledge, and community dialogue are paired with digital mapping, carbon traceability, certification, and ecological monitoring.
This blend strengthens territorial identity while opening new pathways toward a green, culturally rooted economy.
